Photographs help a contractor understand why you called. Stay on the ground. Do not climb a ladder, walk a roof, or lean over an edge to get a picture.
Views that are usually useful
- Each side of the house, from far enough back to show the whole roof slope.
- A closer view of the spot that concerns you, if you can see it from the ground or from a window.
- Gutters, downspouts, and any place water is spilling over.
- An interior stain on a ceiling, with something in the frame that shows the room.
A photograph cannot show what is under the shingles. The person who looks at the roof in person is the one who can describe the condition.
